Spencer, IA (KICD) — The owners of one downtown business have purchased four of the addresses damaged by the fire on Grand Avenue back in January. Eric and Kristin Meeter own Pressed, they and Eric’s parents have formed M and M Grand Venutes and have closed on the buildings at 215, 217, 219, and 221 previously owned by Don Hemphill.
Pressed will remain at its current location, and the new purchase will house a new venture.
The building at 221 Grand Avenue has been removed except for the facade. The top half of the facade was recently removed for structural reasons, with the brick saved for the rennovation work. The buildings next door at 223 and 225 Grand Avenue also sustained water and smoke damage.
Ironically those buildings were already standing in 1931, but were not harmed in the fire that destroyed most of Spencer’s downtown that year.
