Cherokee, IA (KICD)– Levels on some area waterways may look to be running on the high side early on this Spring, but the ground itself is still very dry.

Cherokee Fire Chief Casey Carpenter says it is important to think ahead and to be paying attention if actively burning in these types of conditions.

Chief Carpenter adds its is never a bad thing to notify local fire crews or law enforcement of plans to burn.

The National Weather Service has put much of Northwest Iowa into a Red Flag Warning for Tuesday afternoon because of low humidity forecasts along with increased winds making it easier for fires to get out of control.
