Spencer, IA (KICD)– Fire officials are continuing to push the use of smoke and carbon dioxide detectors as part of Fire Prevention Week.

Spencer Firefighter Jacob Franker says making sure alarms are located near all sleeping areas and the kitchen is just the first step. The next piece involves regular checking the devices.

Franker adds another important item to have in the home that is sometimes overlooked is a fire extinguisher that can help keep a potentially bad situation from becoming even worse.
