Spencer, IA (KICD)– Fire Prevention Week for 2023 is turning its attention to staying safe in the kitchen and trying to avoid costly fires.

Spencer Firefighter Steve Grimmius says it all starts with being prepared when in the kitchen.

Grimmius adds the reminder it is also not a good idea to hit a grease fire with water.

Spencer firefighters have been making their annual rounds to local schools over the past several days to teach fire prevention while also sending home some important planning information that could be live saving in the event of a fire.
