Spencer, IA (KICD)– Spencer emergency crews spent about two hours clearing a scene involving carbon monoxide at a local church Thursday morning.

Spencer Fire/Rescue was paged shortly after 9:15 to First Christian Church at 701 East 18th Street where high levels of the poisonous gas were found inside.

Crews verified that the natural gas supply to the building had been turned off and began venting the structure until levels were deemed safe. Black Hills Energy staff remained on scene to investigate a possible cause.
