Spencer, IA (KICD)– The local got its first look last weekend at what is to come as far as colder weather conditions which has fire officials putting out the annual reminder that now is the time to get that furnace checked out.
Spencer firefighter Eli Clemmen says the easiest step in regular maintenance is checking and replacing the filter on a regular basis and making sure there is some free space around the unit.
When we get into the winter months, it is also important to be checking the outdoor vents and intakes for obstructions.
And when it comes to heating sources, fire officials recommend having a smoke and carbon minoxide detector nearby as an added safety feature to alert everyone in the home in the event of an emergency.
