Algona, IA (KICD) — Flags in Iowa are flying at half-staff today in honor of Algona police officer Kevin Cram, who was gunned down Wednesday night in the line of duty. Iowa Department of Public Safety Commissioner Steve Bayans says officer Cram was a hero.

Bayans came to Algona yesterday.to acknowledge the pain, shock, and grief the entire community is suffering.

Algona schools offered to cancel today’s Homecoming parade in respect, but the police department requested it go on as scheduled. The parade will start with a moment of silence in Cram’s memory.
Funeral services are still pending and a memorial fund has been established at Iowa State Bank in Algona.
