Estherville, IA (KICD)– Three former Armstrong city officials charged following an long-term investigation into alleged misappropriation of city money are asking to be tried separately.

Former Mayor Gregg Bumm, City Clerk Connie Thackery and Police Chief Craig Merril were all charged in February 2021 with various crimes including theft and various forms of misconduct following a special investigation by state officials.

Online court documents show legal representative for the defendants have asked to have their clients tried separately and for proceedings to be held outside of Emmet County.

Two others charged in the investigation, former clerks Tracie Lang and Mary Staton, pled guilty to charges against them.
