Des Moines, IA (Radio Iowa)– A past lawmaker from Iowa is threatening a lawsuit of carbon dioxide pipelines.
Former Congressman Steve King says he is in talks with three law firms about filing suit to block construction of the pipelines that have been proposed in several parts of the state after filling official paperwork Monday with the Iowa Utilities Board to be on the record as an opponent of the projects.
King says he is aware law firms are already representing landowner and county officials opposed to the pipelines but notes the focus should be on overturning a 2005 Supreme Court decision that says private property can be claimed for private economic development through eminent domain.
On Saturday, King met in Fort Dodge with over 150 people from Iowa, Nebraska and the Dakotas who are opposed to the carbon pipelines and he says some of them indicated they would be willing to join a class action lawsuit against the carbon pipeline developers.
