Maurice, IA (KICD)– A former Sioux County Sheriff’s Deputy and his wife are facing multiple charges in connection to an investigation involving sexual abuse of children.
Caleb and Jill Haverdink were both charged on Thursday with seven counts of neglect of a dependent person, two counts of mandatory reporter violations and one count of making false reports to law enforcement.
According to a criminal complaint the couple had prior knowledge of a child in their care committing numerous acts of sexual abuse against other children and reportedly took no meaningful actions to mitigate the issues putting other foster children in their care at risk.
Caleb Haverdink was working for the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office at the time of the of the initial accusations and has since been let go. In order to avoid a conflict of interest in the investigation, local authorities and investigators recused themselves and brought in the Clay County Attorney’s Office and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.
