Spencer, IA (KICD)– A fundraising effort in continuing to properly identify for than twenty people buried in what is known as Potter’s Field at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Cemetery Superintendent Kevin Robinson went before the City Council last week noting the goal of up raising up to twelve thousand dollars will be used to have a monument made for those in the mostly unmarked site that was traditionally used as a place to bury those that could not afford traditional services.

Once the monument and benches at the site just east of the cemetery maintenance shed are in place, Robinson is hoping any additional momentum can be used to help bring more awareness and upgrades to the area.

As of last week, the fundraising effort was a little over a thousand dollars away from paying for the monument with any additional raised planned to go toward marker restoration. Those interested in learning more about the project or donating can contact Riverside Cemetery at 580-7250.
