Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– Christian Goyne-Yarns was back in court Thursday morning to receive his sentence for first-degree murder in the death of Shelby Woizeschke by District Court Judge Carl Petersen.
Prior to sentencing, Goyne-Yarns was given an opportunity to speak which he refused. Victim impact statements were then presented including one from the caretaker of Woizeschke’s two kids.
The victim’s mother also spoke noting that the defendant’s actions affect far more than just her family.
Woizeschke’s fiancĂ© further noted that no one should have been sitting in the courtroom on Thursday because, in his opinion, the defendant should already have been in jail for past actions.
Defense attorney Brenden Kelley further stated his client has intentions to appeal the case after a motion for a new trial was denied by the court.
