Lake Park, IA (KICD) — The Harris Lake Park School board voted unanimously last night to ask voters for a new elementary school. A straw poll of the ninety patrons who attended informational meetings showed that an overwhelming 75 of them preferred that option; Eleven favored spending 10 million dollars on a new HVAC system, roof, and safety vestibule at the current site; and only four favored an extensive renovation of the old building.
Board member Ebony Rahe said the best option was already obvious in her mind.
The board also voted to pay the district’s architect 24 thousand dollars to help get the bond issue passed. Superintendent Les Douma explained what the district gets for that money.
The election to raise property taxes by 4 dollars 5 cents in the HLP district to pay off general obligation bonds will be September 12th. It needs 60 percent approval to pass.
