Hartley, Ia (KICD) – On Big Country 107.7, the Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals looked to pick up a 3rd win on the season against Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn who was in search of their first win.

The Hawks took a lead in the 1st quarter on a 7 yard Touchdown run from James Gellerman. After the 2 point conversion, HMS had an 8-0 lead.

Sibley-Ocheyedan would strike back with a punt-block-safety, making the score 8-2, and then took the lead late in the 2nd quarter with a 11 yard Touchdown pass from Kayne Julius to Tanner Gries. Sibley-Ocheyedan took the 9-8 lead in to the locker room.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn regained the lead in the 3rd quarter with a 5 yard James Gellerman Touchdown run. Sibley-Ocheyedan answered with an 83 yard touchdown run from Dominic Marco, giving the Generals a 15-14 lead.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn would re-take the lead at 22-15 when Jack Masthergen ran it in from 6 yards away.

The Hawks would extend their lead to 12 on a 1 yard Touchdown run from Gellerman.

Sibley-Ocheyedan would get one more score on a 7 yard touchdown pass from Kayne Julius to Riely Getzel, but were unable to find the endzone again as Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn came away with the 28-21 win.

James Gellerman ran the ball 46 times for 235 yards and 3 Touchdowns for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn.

The Hawks pick up their first win and will play Gehlen Catholic next week at home.

Sibley-Ocheyedan falls to 2-5 on the year and sees North Union for a non-district game to close out the season.

Elsewhere in Class A District 1, Akron-Westfield beat Alta-Aurelia 25-0 and Gehlen Catholic of LeMars shut out South O’Brien 33-0.
