Spencer, IA (KICD)– It appears those waiting for an environmental learning center at Spencer’s Oneota Park are going to have to wait longer due a delay.

Clay County Conservation Director Will Horsley told the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday the snag comes from the financial side due to some higher than expected bids for the project.

Horsley says that this is not exactly the end of what has become a long-term project, but the Conservation Board will be looking into ways to come up with around one million dollars in additional funds that will see the project through to completion including talking with the United States Department of Agriculture on specifics for a grant already awarded.

The Clay County Conservation Board and Foundation will meet later this month to determine the next steps in finding additional money and helping get the Oneota Environmental Learning Center project off the ground.
