Arnolds Park, IA (KICD) — Despite recent rains, the reconstruction of Highway 71 through the Iowa Great Lakes is running ahead of schedule this spring.

Iowa D.O.T. Engineer Darwin Bishop says the goal is for out-of-town motorists to think everything looks normal during the summer months.

Actual construction should be complete after Labor Day.

Bishop tells KICD News crews were actually able to pour the bike trail this week because of the crushed rock base that provided good drainage.
