Lake Park, IA (KICD) — The Harris Lake Park School district will NOT need a new superintendent next year after all. Retired administrator Les Douma accepted the roll of part-time superintendent last year but announced in the fall he’d have to give up the job to help his wife recover from knee surgery.

This week school board president Evan Bensley announced they’ve persuaded Douma to stay on for twelve more months.

The HLP board wants two full-time principals, but doesn’t feel they need a full-time superintendent. Bensley says they do realize Douma is putting in more time and effort than required.

Douma’s new contract runs for one year beginning July 1st. The first step in finding his replacement will be approaching neighboring schools about sharing a Superintendent with HLP.
