Storm Lake, IA (KICD) — Five members from the Iowa Downtown Resource Center performed an assessment of Storm Lake last week.
Team leader Jim Engel believes the pieces for a renaissance in the heart of the community are already in place.

Urban Designer Dennis Reynolds says Lake Street and its sidewalks are abnormally wide – presenting a multitude of opportunities.

Reynolds says there’s room for trees, planters, benches, outdoor service areas, and “mini” parks.

The consultants say they kept hearing from residents and business owners in Storm Lake that they want more outdoor gathering places in downtown; and said teenagers expressed a lot of enthusiasm about their downtown movie theatre.
