Spirit Lake, IA (KICD) — Iowa DNR Fisheries Biologist Mike Hawkens says it appears the Iowa Great Lakes are free of Eurasian Water Milfoil at this time. Treatment of the Wahpeton Canals, Lagoon, and Harbor on West Lake Okoboji seems to have been effective.

And treatment of a much larger cropping on East Lake LAST year also seems to have the weed in check.

Hawkins reminds us that the two infestations were treated with different modes of chemical.

Hawkins says invasive species are a fact of life, and Eurasian Water Milfoil AND OTHER intruders will inevitably find their way to Okoboji in the future.
