Milford, IA (KICD)– The recent heavy rains have started to cause problems for many ranging from farming to outdoor activities and even water treatment.
Steve Anderson is the Superintendent of the Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary Sewer District. He tells KICD News there has been an increase in water flows through the system in recent days partially because of the extra rainfall, but also from those making illegal sump pump connections to the system.
When the system becomes flooded, Anderson says a number of issues can begin to surface which can get very expensive.
Anderson says exact protocols for sump pump discharge vary by community, but his overall urge is to get that water out of the sanitary system and have it discharge in a way that will get it into the storm sewers.
