Des Moines, IA (Radio Iowa)– A group of lawmakers is recommending some new guidelines be developed for grants from the Iowa Veteran Trust Fund that help with things like home and auto repairs and medical expenses.

Representative Megan Jones of Sioux Rapids says the bright line tests of a veteran’s income and assets are causing problems.

Todd Jacobus from the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs says fund managers are recommending grants again be limited to veterans with income not exceeding 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

Jacobus says veterans are aware the grants are limited to low income cases and removing such restrictions would likely lead to a flood of applications.
