Des Moines, IA (Radio Iowa)– The State of Iowa is going to be taking a deep dive into rules and regulations put in place by state agencies.

State officials say Iowa’s Administrative Code has “ballooned” to over twenty thousand pages containing nearly 200 thousand restrictive terms, many of which Governor Kim Reynolds considers unnecessary, counterproductive and shortcircuiting.

Representative Megan Jones of Sioux Rapids has been named the chair for a legislative panel that will review proposed state government rules and regulations next month.

Jones, who is an attorney, has been on the legislative committee that can approve or reject proposed state government rules since 2013. She says during that first year, the far reach of state government rulemaking became clear.

Governor Reynolds officially signed a moratorium on new rule-making Wednesday morning and has directed state agencies to review every regulation they have on the books and repeal those that have an undue economic burden.
