Sioux City, IA (KICD) – A federal judge has ruled that a Dickinson County Deputy had reasonable suspicion to detain a Milford man for suspected public intoxication, even though the charges were later dismissed.

The Sioux City Journal reports that U.S. District Court Judge C.J. Williams denied Ryan Wolterman’s charges of unlawful arrest.

The judge said that Deputy Shawn Syverson had reasonable suspicion to effect a temporary investigative detention during the incident in October of 2022.

Wolterman has 30 days to appeal.  He was seeking a monetary judgement for pain and suffering, and deprivation of his constitutional rights.
