Lake Park, IA (KICD) — There’s not a deal yet, but the Lake Park City Council is amenable to swapping property with the school district. Mayor Matt Carstenson says the city is fine with giving property in the vicinity of the baseball fields to the school.
In return, the HLP School district would give the city one, two, or three parcels where the current elementary sits. The Mayor says the current playground is most attractive.
The school district says it would tear down the building and give the city that property. The mayor would like to research DEEDING IT to a developer who would construct a Senior apartment complex.
The third parcel is a vacant lot directly North of the old building.
Carstenson understands there is an interested buyer for that parcel, but says the school has offered the city first dibs.
The Harris Lake Park school district will no longer have a need for the structure West of downtown when its new elementary building is completed adjacent to the current middle and high school located South of downtown.
