Spencer, IA (KICD)– Independence Day is just days away which will have many Iowans wanting to set off their own fireworks, but local law enforcement officials are issuing reminders about knowing the rules in your community.
Spencer Police Chief Mark Warburton says there are specific regulations on what can and what cannot be discharged in city limits.
Councilman Tom Nelson adds that those planning to use fireworks in other parts of the area should keep neighborhood pets in mind as well as those suffering from various forms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which for some can be triggered by loud noises.
Not every community has the same regulations when it comes to fireworks, so residents should check with community leaders or law enforcement ahead of time. Fireworks can be purchased from both permanant structures and temporary stands through July 8th.
