Spencer, IA (KICD)– The latest update on the USDA Drought Monitor shows local conditions holding steady.
New numbers released Thursday morning show all of our area in a D1 Moderate Drought with the exception of far Northeastern Osceola and Clay Counties, Northern Palo Alto and most of Dickinson and Emmet Counties which are considered to be abnormally dry just like last week.
An new area of D2 Severe Drought has showed up in the update along the Missouri River in Lyon and Sioux Counties with the spot of D3 Extreme Drought around Sioux City now covering 0.78 percent of Iowa.
Looking across the state areas covered by at least a severe drought expanded by three percent with 98.8 percent of Iowa considered to be at least abnormally dry.
This information considers data collected through Tuesday meaning none of the rain falling Thursday morning across the area will be added in until next week.
