Des Moines, IA (KICD) — Two local school districts that had approved arming staff members addressed a school safety sub-committee of the Iowa House Tuesday. Angela Olesen from Spirit Lake was in charge of instituting that policy two years ago.
Spirit Lake Superintendent Dave Smith says they had to revoke the policy when E.M.C. Insurance threatened to drop the district.
Cherokee School Board President Jodi Thomas addressed the speaker before her, who was opposed to arming school staff.
The proposal in the House of Representatives would supply partial funding for school districts to hire armed School Resource Officers.
