Algona, IA (KICD) — The attorney representing the Algona man accused of shooting and killing a police officer serving him a warrant has asked for a change of venue.
Matthew Pittenger of Mason City says 43 year old Kyle Ricke cannot get a fair trial in the county where the incident ocurred because of news coverage.
Police say Ricke shot Officer Kevin Cram with a shotgun on September 13th, and then fled to Minnesota – where he was arrested without incident, and then extradicted back to Iowa.
He has plead innocent in the case. The pretrial is currently scheduled for May 31st and the trial for June 25th. The case is being prosecuted by the State of Iowa.
