Cedar Rapids, IA (KICD)– A man awaiting an attempted murder trial in Eastern Iowa is on the run after reportedly removing an electronic monitoring device in the local area and then fleeing the country.

KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids reports that 19-year-old Ali Younes (You-nes) was on house arrest with his family in Sutherland after being accused of robbing and strangling a person on the University of Iowa campus last April.

Police say Younes removed the monitoring device last weekend later boarding a plane in Chicago destined for Jordan.

His parents have both been charged with helping Younes escape.
