Des Moines, IA (Radio Iowa)– Saturday kicked off the start of the new fiscal year for the State of Iowa which means some new laws have officially taken effect.

This year’s changes include the number of state agencies shriking from 37 to 16 meaning thousand of state employees will start reporting to new bosses this week.

Another new law changes child labor guidelines in that 14 and 15 year olds can now work until eleven o’clock on the evening during the summer and nine one school starts. Sixteen and 17-year-olds can also work longer hours and in some cases do tasks that were previously off limits, like serve alcohol if they have a parent’s permission.
