Estherville, IA (KICD) — Local officials have determined there was no foul play in a fatal Estherville house fire last month.

On the morning of June 24th a neighbor smelled smoke and called the Estherville fire department to 219 South 8th Street. After venting a roof and making entry crews found the body of 61 year old Michael Howard.

Fire Chief Travis Sheridan tells KICD News that he, Police Chief Brent Shatto, and the County Medical Examiner have deteremined there was no foul play involved. The State Fire Marshall investigated and the official cause will be listed as undetermined.

At this time the State Medical Examiner’s office is performing an autopsy to determine an exact cause of death.
