Birmingham, AL (KICD)– The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released its official outlook for the Spring season Thursday morning.

The expectations overall through June are showing the likelihood of continued above normal temperatures across the Midwest following in the footsteps of 2023 which ended as the warmest year on record across the country and world.

The piece that could be different in the short term when compared to more recent years, according to Brad Pugh from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, is a reduction in drought coverage over portions of Iowa.

Nick Nauslar from the Storm Prediction Center notes our mild winter could renew fire concerns over part of the region as well.

As far as actual precipitation is concerned, it looks as though there will be a slight chance of getting above normal rainfall over the next several months with a long-term, high impact flood risk not very likely in our portion of the region.
