Spencer, IA (KICD)– It was a packed house last week at the Spencer Public Library as community members came out to learn about some of the history happening right below our own feet.
Mark Andersen is the Archaeologist at the Sanford Museum in Cherokee. He tells KICD News much of the history of Clay County dates back as far as 13 thousand years.
Andersen says there have been 82 identified archaic sites in Clay County, but he spent much of the last year working at what will be become the 84th.
Those interested in learning more about the archaeology of our local area are encouraged to join the Northwest Chapter of Iowa Archaeology Society. Andersen is also working on setting up some field days of sorts that can give enthusiasts the hands on opportunity.
