Spencer, IA (KICD)– The numbers have been totaled and show much of Iowa coming in warmer and drier than normal for the month of November.

In Spencer, the average temperature ended up nearly four and a half degrees above average which State Climatologist Justin Glisan says has a lot to do with a stretch of days in the middle of the month that had daytime highs around twenty degrees above normal.

That quiet storm track also helped lead to some very dry conditions and only three one hundredths of an inch of precipitation falling which is low despite the calendar entering into the time of the year with the least amount of moisture coming down.

November’s dry pattern comes after the previous month was finally able to be above normal for the first time since late last winter which is perhaps starting to renew some moisture concerns for next year.

Looking more in the short-term, there is a likelihood that a strong low pressure system will move its way into the Upper Midwest by the end of the week, but as of right now it is looking like the main impacts will be in southern and eastern portions of the state.
