Spencer, IA (KICD)—One person was taken to the hospital following a carbon monoxide leak at a Spencer hotel Saturday night.

Spencer Fire-Rescue was called to the Holiday Inn Express at 916 13th Street Southwest shortly after nine o’clock to assist with evacuating high levels of the toxic gas from the building. Upon arrival of firefighters and medical personnel five people evacuated from the hotel were checked over with one of them being taken to Spencer Hospital.

The leak is believed to be the result of a malfunctioning heating system. Emergency crews were on scene for nearly two hours and were assisted by Black Hills Energy.
