Spencer, IA (KICD)– One of two pipeline companies was in Spencer on Tuesday to go over some safety concerns that have been raised by locals surrounding the proposed carbon dioxide pipelines that have received a lot of attention in the area.

Kaylee Langrell with Summit Carbon Solutions told the board the company is highly regulated to ensure safety along pipelines and that Summit is looking to take that a step further in a few categories.

Langrell says there are some automatic safety features built into the line should some kind of incident occur.

Langrell adds a dispersion study is underway along the proposed route to determine what evacuation areas would look like in the event of an emergency. Once that is finished, trainings for local emergency responders will be developed.
