Pocahontas, IA (KICD) — The 100 year old jail in Pocahontas County has crumbling walls, exposed wires, and Sheriff Steve Nelson says it’s unsafe for both his staff and the prisoners.
Plans for a new law enforcement center have been drawn up for a parcel of property directly East of the courthouse the county already owns, and the Sheriff says it will be constructed with “no frills.”

Nelson tells KICD News his entire staff would move to the new building for efficiency.

Current office space in the Sheriff’s department would be turned over to the court system. The upper level jail would likely become storage. We’ll finish up our three-part look at the bond issue for a new law enforcement center in Pocahontas County on Thursday.
