Spencer, IA (KICD)– Iowans continue to be hungry for changes to the way property taxes are adjusted and that is no different in the local area making a key point of discussion at Saturday’s second Eggs and Issues forum for 2023.
Some may look at making changes to sales tax figures to make property taxes lower, but Senator Lynn Evans of Cherokee says all that would really do is change where the same amount of taxes will go.
Representative Megan Jones of Sioux Rapids asks that the public be patient because this is not an issue that can be taken care of overnight.
Senator Dave Rowley of Spirit Lake agrees that there is still a lot of work to do before any final legislation can even be drafted.
Representative John Wills of Spirit Lake reiterated that this was the number one issue he heard about during his most recent campaign and he has an amendment in mind for the current bill in the house that would not only make sure taxpayers are aware that property taxes will be changing but also why.
The final Eggs and Issues legislative forum for 2023 will be this coming Saturday, March 4th, from nine to 10:30 in Council Chambers at Spencer City Hall.
