Spencer, IA (KICD)– Recent heavy rains across many parts of the Iowa in the last couple of weeks have resulted in big improvements in drought conditions.

For the first time since June 2022, there is no sign of D3 Extreme Drought in Iowa with 19.3 percent of the state in a Moderate Drought down from 22.3 percent last week.

This week’s Drought Monitor from the USDA also has the area considered at least abnormally dry is down to 59.7 percent, more than a ten point change week over week.

Locally, most of Northwest Iowa has been removed from any kind of drought concern with the only exception being the southeast corner of Pocahontas County which is abnormally dry at this point.
