Sheldon, IA (KICD) — The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations says the death of a Sheldon woman is being treated as a murder, and a suspect has already been arrested.

An official statement emailed from Special Agent Darrell Simmons says the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Department was alerted around 4 o’clock Thursday afternoon about a deceased female found at her home at 604 4th Avenue. Authorities immediately suspected foul play after arriving at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday at the State Medical Examiner’s office in Ankeny.

At some point Thursday night or early Friday morning two warrants were issued for 41 year old Nathaniel Byron Kessel of Rock Rapids: One for 1st degree murder, and one for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Authorities spotted and apprehended Kessel around noon Friday in Flandreau, South Dakota.  If you have any information about this case you’re asked to contact the Sheldon Police Department or the Iowa DCI.
