Spencer, IA (KICD) — Seasons Center in Spencer recently announced they were awarded a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Seasons Grants Project Administrator Sarah Heinrichs-Wurm shared their goals for the funding.

She says this project is an extension of a similar program in their Sioux Center Office, but this newer endeavor covering nine nearby counties will be mostly headquartered in Spencer.

Being able to connect families with all of the different agencies and resources has been something Seasons has been working towards for a while according to Heinrichs-Wurm.

Some of the new roles with the Family Support Center include a Family Peer, who is a person with experience as a foster or adoptive parent who can give support to families, whatever that may look like. Heinrichs-Wurm says a social worker with similar experience will also be added.

The two million dollar grant for the project is spread out over five years, with $400,000 being put towards it each year.
