Des Moines, IA ( Radio Iowa)– A Senate subcommittee has permanently shelved a bill that would set some new rules for building carbon pipelines after hearing opposition on the matter.

Senator Mike Klimish of Spillville says he went into Monday’s hearing with a plan but everything changed after hearing from both supporters and opponents of carbon capture pipelines.

Cynthia Hansen, a landowner from Shelby County is urging lawmakers to ban the use of eminent domain for such projects so developers do not have the power to seize property from unwilling landowners.

A House committee is expected to consider a similar bill sometime this week so it is possible senators may eventually revisit the issue.
