Graettinger, IA (KICD) — US Senator Chuck Grassley met with local pork producers in Graettinger Monday to discuss the recent Supreme Court ruling in favor of California’s Proposition 12. The Republican noted that while a one vote majority said California can enact publicly approved restrictions on the pork sold within its border, it also said Congress could overrule it with legislation.
Grassley and Iowa’s Junior Senator – Joni Ernst – are co-sponsoring the “Exposing Agricultural Trade Suppression” or “EATS” Act. He says so far, no Democrats have signed on to support it, but he’ll be reaching out personally to Minnesota’s two US Senators as that state is number two to pork production behind Iowa.
He told farmers to keep telling their story to anyone who will listen.
