Sheldon, IA (KICD) — As we reported earlier this year, Sheldon’s East Elementary has been named a “Blue Ribbon School” by the U.S. Department of Education. Principal Jason Groendyke says they’ve come a long way from being named a “school in need of assistance” just a decade ago.
Instructional Coach Stephanie Pritts says the education plan is constantly shifting based on need.
First Grade Instructor Emily Ney says the philosophy at Sheldon’s East Elementary school is that students must first be emotionally sound to succeed in the classroom.
KICD News attended a special celebration for the students at East Elementary in Sheldon on Friday. Principal Groendyke says winning the Blue Ribbon award is just the beginning, and hopes student achievement will continue its upward momentum.
