Sibley, IA (KICD) — Sibley Ocheyeden’s secondary principal has been offered the job of superintendent. Stan De Zeeuw says he’s “humbled and honored” to have been selected by the school board to take over July 1st when Jamie Craig leaves the position.

Three individuals were interviewed for the job this week – the other two being superintendents from South Dakota and Alaska – but school board president Kyle Grimes said DeZeeuw was a clear choice by interview teams and has the full support of the board.

Grimes says De Zeeuw has taken the lead in evaluating teachers, refining the at-risk program, and has taken an active role in staffing and budget issues.

De Zeeuw was previously a teacher in Rock Valley and has an education specialist degree from Wayne State College.

The Sibley-Ocheyedan school board has a special meeting scheduled for Friday to formally approve the hiring. Jamie Craig says he’s leaving after four years as superintendent to help take care of elderly family members back home in Southwest Iowa.
