Sioux County, IA (KICD) — The Sioux County Sheriff’s Department handled several traffic incidents at the start of the Labor Day weekend.
In the most severe accident, 43 year old Michelle Vant Hof of Granville was Eastbound on highway 10, one mile East of Alton when her vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole. She was flown to Mercy Hospital for treatment of unspecified, severe injuries. The Orange City police, fire, and ambulance; and Alton Fire and Ambulance assisted at the scene. That accident occurred about 3pm.

Around 3AM that morning, deputies covered an accident East of Rock Valley. 49 year old Juan Castillo of Sanborn was Westbound on Highway 18 in the dark when he struck four cows that were on the road. He wasn’t hurt but the Peterbilt sustained approximately 25 thousand dollars in damage.

And Thursday morning an Alton man transporting a piece of equipment caused some power outages in and around the city of Granville. 61 year old Dennis Schmit of Alton was unaware the grain auger he was towing, was pulling down power lines behind him. Power was knocked out for about a 6 mile area.
