Warren, PA (KICD) — A Spirit Lake native was one of the federal Marshalls who helped apprehend an escaped murder suspect in Pennsylvania Saturday. 34-year-old Michael Burham is the prime suspect in a New York murder and arson but was in Pennsylvania on charges of kidnapping an elderly couple in his flight from New York authorities. He escaped July 6th by using bed sheets as a rope.
The Waterloo Police Department has four officers in their Violet Crime Apprehension team, who are also deputized US Marshalls and can deployed anywhere in the United States to help with manhunts. Two of those officers were in Pennsylvania.
One was Officer Gavin Kramer, a 2017 graduate of Spirit Lake High School who has served on the Waterloo police force since graduating from UNI in 2020.
The escapee was apprehended camping in a wooded area after area residents on a golf cart spotted him.
