Spencer, IA (KICD)– A national report issued in the last few weeks from the North America Reliability Corportation notes parts of the country may suffer power outages throughout the winter, but Spencer Municipal Utilities CEO Steve Pick says that is very unlikely locally since the power provider can generate its own electricity with jet engines.

The jet turbines operate on readily available Number 2 Diesel fuel, but SMU makes sure it has multiple sources for power.

Pick adds the jet turbines are at the end of their useful life and will be replaced in the next few years.

The citizens of Spencer voted to form their own public utility hack in 1942.
