Cherokee, IA (KICD) – Several KICD area schools attended the Lynn Jolly Relays in Cherokee on Thursday night. KICD was in attendance and spoke with event winners.
Alta-Aurelia’s Allison Watts won the Girls High Jump with a height of 5’1”.
Jon Jenness of Cherokee placed 1st in the Boys High Jump with a leap of 6’0”.
In the Girls Long Jump, Mackenzie Harder of Storm Lake won with a distance of 16’6.5”.
Jack Berends of Spencer won the Boys Long Jump with a distance of 19’8”. He was hoping for a better distance despite the win.
Estherville Lincoln Central’s Hillary Ruschy won the Girls Discus Throw with a distance of 113’2”.
Logan Thorson of Cherokee won the Boys Discus with a toss of 128’0”.
Ruschy would claim gold in the Shot Put as well with a throw of 38’9.5”.
It was Cherokee’s Blake Lovell winning the Boys Shot Put with a heave of 46’1.5”.
Estherville Lincoln Central’s team of Schlitz, Yager, Dunlavy, and Anderson won the 800m Sprint Medley Relay with a time of 1:53.2.
The ELC Boys Sprint Med team of Hoyer, Shatto, Leanard, and White would also win with a time of 1:39.44.
Nora Peterson of Alta/Aurelia would pick up a win in the Girls 3000m run with a time of 10:33.74. Peterson did battle with a few other KICD area 2-milers in Tyra Schupbach and Peyton Morey.
In the Boys 3200m Run, Parker Duitsman would win with a time of 10:12.96.
Cherokee would claim the Girls 4x800m Relay gold with a team of Hyndman, Benson, Woodall, and Gravenish ticking 10:37.5.
The Spencer Boys 4x800m Relay team of Munson, Tello, Krogman, and Koppie won with a time of 8:33.04.
The Tiger Boys would also win the Shuttle Hurdle Relay with a team of Johnson, Hinkeldey, Pitts, and Timmer, running 1:00.59 and qualifying for the Drake Relays.
Storm Lake’s Mackenzie Harder was 1st in the Girls 100m Dash with a time of 12.64.
Spencer’s Miles Robbins edged out teammate Keaton Stanzel to win the Boys 100m Dash with a time of 11.24 seconds.
The Girls Distance Medley Relay saw an Alta-Aurelia team of Gunkelman, Langschwager, Anderson, and Peterson win with a time of 4:37.13.
The Cherokee Boys took the Distance Medley Relay win with a team of Paulsrud, Jenness, Kohn, and Stowater running 3:52.48.
Estherville Lincoln Central’s Jaselyne Anderson won the Girls 400m Dash with a time of 59.9 seconds.
An Okoboji Girls team of Avery, DeRuyter, Wells, and Allen won with a time of 1:50.04.
Spencer’s Boys 4x200m Relay team of Robbins, Pitts, Berends, and Carillo won with a time of 1:31.13.
Estherville Lincoln Central’s Cara Schiltz won the Girls 100m Hurdles with a time of 16.97.
Weston Johnson of Spencer would win the Boys 110m Hurdles with a time of 15.45. Despite a Personal Record, Johnson has some things he would like to clean up.
Alta-Aurelia’s Hayden Burkland took 1st in the Girls 800m Run with a time of 2:35.64. Burkland won the race at the wire.
Akron Jostand of Okoboji would win the Boys 800m Run with teammate Evan Osler taking 2nd. The Pioneers were very strong in mid-distance events.
Okoboji Boys coach Brad Peter talked about how the Mid-Distance is the Pioneers base when it comes to creating lineups.
Anderson would win another individual race for Estherville Lincoln Central in the Girls 200m Dash with a time of 26.69.
Jon Jenness of Cherokee won the Boys 200m Dash with a time of 22.83 seconds.
Laney Wolfswinkel of Cherokee would win the Girls 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:10.41.
Drew Sandven would continue the mid-distance success for the Okoboji Boys when he won the 400 Hurdles with a time of 56.77.
Nora Peterson picked up her 2nd individual Gold on the night with 1st place finish in the Girls 1500m run with a time of 5:11.49.
Parker Duitsman of Estherville Lincoln Central took 1st in the Boys 1600m run with a time of 4:38.44.
THe Okoboji Girls had a very good night in the Sprint Relays, winning both the 4×1 and 4×2. Here is Pioneer Girls coach Jake Evenson.
The Spencer Boys team of Stanzel, Robbins, Berends, and Carillo won the 4x100m Relay with a time of 43.78 seconds.
The Okoboji 4x400m Boys won with a time of 3:32.39. The relay was made up of Jostand, Heimdal, Sandven, and Osler.
In the Girls team standings, Cherokee won with 100.3 points with KPWC in 2nd with 95 and Alta-Aurelia in 3rd with 90. West Bend-Mallard took 4th, Estherville Lincoln Central 5th, Storm Lake 6th, Okoboji 7th, Spencer 8th, and Newell-Fonda was 11th.
For the Boys team standings, Spencer dominated, winning with 148 points. Okoboji was 2nd with 125.5 and Cherokee was 3rd with 122. Estherville Lincoln Central was 4th, Alta-Aurelia 5th, Storm Lake 7th, Newell-Fonda tied with East Sac County for 8th, and West Bend-Mallard was 11th. Here is Spencer head coach Wilson Hookfin.
