Spencer, Ia (KICD) – The Spencer Boys Tennis team matched up with Cherokee on Monday afternoon. The contest was moved inside to the West Side Racquet Club. The original contest was supposed to be a Triangular including Sergeant Bluff-Luton. The Warriors have rescheduled to Thursday.
The Young Tigers turned in a nice competition, winning 5 of the 6 singles matches, highlighted by both Colby Sherrod and Robbie Gerlock rolling to 10-2 wins.
Spencer would go 2-1 in doubles matches, with the team of Steele and McDanel winning 10-2 and the team of Bergstadt and Gerlock also taking a 10-2 win.
Spencer picked up the 7-2 win to begin the season.
Spencer coach Joe Steele was happy with his young team’s performance despite facing a more experienced Braves group. Colby Sherrod, Jackson Bergstadt, Robbie Gerlock, Cole McDanel, and Ade’ Thomas all gathered their first varsity wins for the Tigers.
Next up for Spencer will be Fort Dodge and the rescheduled dual with Sergeant Bluff-Luton in Spencer ta the Riverview Tennis Courts on Thursday.
